Jonathan Andrews How can I help?

get to know mei'm pretty cool

I'm a news junkie with an addiction to new media and digital storytelling.

Though my exact focus and path have changed, my passion remains the same: words. Writing, whether it's an article, a Facebook post or Tweet, HTML, CSS, computer script, is what I love to do.

At CBS46 News in Atlanta, I am able to pursue that love from all fronts.

As the Digital Content Manager for CBS46.com, I manage a small team that produces content for desktop and mobile and social media. I help better engage our audience on the website and through social media, with the goal of growing that audience according to key performance indicators.

what can I do for you? i've picked up some skills.

FOX10 Float Tracker

The FOX10 Float Tracker App, was released on Android and iPhone in early 2016, the app, built on doApp's platform included tracking software built on open source options that used PHP, as well as an Android phone placed in one of the floats at the front of the parade. It allowed users to see where the parade was along its course in real-time, in comparison to where the user was standing on the parade route. Technology used included: Javascript (Parse.ly), the Google Maps API, PHP, and Android Studio.

It was downloaded more than 6,000 times across both platorms.

CBS46 Atlanta Traffic Twitter@CBS46Traffic

This Twitter Bot uses the WSI Max Traffic API to tweet traffic incidents across metro Atlanta. It focuses on incidents right now, but I plan to expand it to include drive times, updates on long-term closures and other useful information to the greater Atlanta area's drivers.Technology used included: PHP (image manipulation), Max Traffic API, Javascript, CRON.

Since starting the bot, it has grown by hundreds of followers and alerted the newsroom to potential traffic stories.

Atlanta Olympics 20 years later multimedia story

I used HTML5 and basic JS/Jquery to bring the story of the Olympics in Atlanta 20 years ago to life. By compiling the reporting of WGCL-CBS46's special projects units and contributors, the story explores all facets of the games, from the triumphs of the gymnastics team to the tragedy of the bombing.

The story is fully responsive and adjusts to the size of your browser as it changes. It's a unique look at a story that's been told many times over the years.
